Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen
Silicone baking molds are long-lasting, shatterproof and affordable. 3D silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal baking tins. The most well-known baking tins are usually made of aluminium or sheet metal, which are bulky. Especially in smaller kitchens, metal baking tins take up a lot of space. Most metal baking tins cannot go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating can be washed off. With silicone baking molds, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking molds are cold- and heat-resistant from -40 to 250 degrees. This means silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked in and cleaned in the dishwasher. There are all kinds of small silicone molds, as well as large silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, Donuts, muffins or Cake pops, as well as ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or ice cream. Note: even if the Silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. So always put on oven gloves and let the silicone mold cool down thoroughly. Unlike metal baking tins, silicone molds cool down more quickly. This saves you time and you can continue processing your creations sooner. Silicone is affordable compared to rubber and is resistant to chemical substances and fungi. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen helper. Thanks to its surface, all mixtures can be released or turned out by bending and pulling the mold. While silicone is splinter- and shatterproof, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore, only use plastic or silicone utensils with this Silicone mold.
Frozen sweet or savoury
Cold or frozen mixtures are particularly well suited to silicone molds. Silicone molds for desserts are the most popular. To help the mixture take on the shape, you can simply fill the finished mousse, ice cream, or sorbet mixture into the cavities using a piping bag and distribute it by pulling and pressing in the Silicone mold. You can then scrape off the excess mixture with a Spatula and put it into the next mold. Once you have filled every cavity, place the mold in the freezer and let the treats freeze for at least 4 hours — ideally overnight. Once the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the shapes a little. For frozen treats, Velvet effect spray works beautifully. It achieves its lovely velvet effect through freezing. You can also use Cake glaze. Simply stick a toothpick into the shape, dip your delicious pieces into the Cake glaze and leave them to set for a moment. With the Velvet effect spray and also the Cake glaze, it is important that your mixtures are frozen. Ice cream and sorbet can be served straight away. A mousse or patisserie can then be left to thaw slowly in the fridge. Creativity is key with this mold: for a starter, you could make a savoury aubergine mousse, for example, freeze it in the mold and serve it alongside fresh breakfast rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served as part of main courses. How about homemade herb butter to go with your grilled food? With silicone, anything is possible!
Baked sweet or savoury
Silicone is also great for baking. Sweet or savoury shapes can be created through baking — whether chocolate Small cakes, marble or lemon cake. The Silicone mold adapts to your very personal taste. A Cake pop batter is also very well suited to the mold. You can make the Cake pop batter in the classic sweet style, with fruit or chocolate chips, or savoury. You can coat the sweet Small cakes with Cake icing and then add sugar sprinkles on top. For the savoury version, a cheese and ham Bundt cake batter works well. Fill it into the cavities and bake at 180 degrees for 10–15 minutes. You can also colour the batter with Gel colors to give the shape a great effect. Be creative and experiment.
What do I need to bear in mind when cleaning and caring for silicone molds?
Before use, you should place your Silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. This is not strictly necessary, but it does contribute to the longevity of your Silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid helps the pores of the silicone surface to close more effectively. This keeps the material flexible for longer and means you will enjoy your silicone baking molds for longer. After the Silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5–10 minutes, you can place the mold on a kitchen towel to drip dry. Try not to rub the baking tin dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is a very effective lint-catcher. This means your Silicone mold can end up covered in lint if you dry the baking tin with a kitchen towel. Once the mold is dry, you can use it straight away. Additional greasing is not necessary.
After baking delicious Small cakes or freezing ice cream, you can simply put the Silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many baking tins usually cannot go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the cleaning solution. This is not the case with silicone. Depending on how frequently you use the Silicone mold, we recommend that you degas your Silicone mold 1–2 times a year. To do this, place the Silicone mold in the centre of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat ensures that certain substances in the silicone baking mold evaporate. Occasionally, a white layer or white spots may form on the Silicone mold. This happens especially when you have not used the Silicone mold for a long time. Simply place the mold in the water bath with washing-up liquid. This will dissolve the grease film from the Silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold silicone molds together and store them in a space-saving way. Don't worry! The Silicone mold will always return to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal baking tins!
