Good cake decorating tools make all the difference between a cake that leans and one that stands straight, is neatly covered and cuts cleanly. This category holds more than 450 tools for every stage, from levelling the sponge to filling, covering and decorating. Everything is in stock in our own warehouse, and orders placed by 4 pm are dispatched the same day.

Which cake tools do you need for what?

Cutting and stacking: the sponge and cake slicer, the 25 cm Wilton cake leveller or the professional cake saw divide sponges into even layers. Adjustable cake rings from Ø 15 to 30 cm hold the filling in shape, and 10 cm acetate strips give mousse cakes smooth sides. See spatulas & cake cutters and cake boards & acetate strips.

Covering and smoothing: a turntable, such as the Ø 28 cm Wilton turntable, is the key tool for neat sides. Add an angled palette knife like the 20 cm Decora, a cake scraper and the adjustable sharp-edge tool for modern cakes with crisp edges. For fondant work, smoothers, modelling tool sets and rolling guides are in modelling & smoothing.

Decorating: disposable piping bags in various lengths, paper cones for fine writing, round and star nozzles, St Honoré nozzles and royal icing mix. The full nozzle range is under piping tips & piping bags.

Precision: a digital precision scale up to 100 g for colours and gelatine, probe and infrared thermometers for couverture chocolate and sugar syrup, and stainless-steel cooling racks.

Tips from our kitchen

  • Rest the sponge: a sponge cuts far more cleanly the day after baking. Well wrapped, it stays moist.
  • Crumb coat first: cover the cake with a thin layer of cream and chill it. This layer traps the crumbs, so the second coat comes out flawless.
  • Turn, don't push: hold the palette knife or scraper still and upright and turn the turntable instead. The sides come out even, without ripples.
  • Use the board as a guide: for sharp edges, choose a cake board the same diameter as your cake ring. The scraper runs along its edge.
  • Support the tiers: from the second tier upwards, push dowels, for example bamboo ones, into the lower cake so it can carry the weight.

Frequently asked questions

Which cake tools do I need to get started?

A turntable, an angled palette knife, a scraper, an adjustable cake ring, a few cake boards and some disposable piping bags with a round and a star nozzle. That covers most cakes.

What size cake board should I use?

For covering, the same size as the cake so it acts as a guide. For presenting and transporting, it can be two to four centimetres larger.

Where can I learn to cover a cake neatly?

In cake basic course 1 in Adliswil we show you step by step how to level, fill and cover a cake.
