Cake dummies

A cake dummy is a polystyrene core in the shape of a cake that you decorate with fondant, cream or icing. In this category you will find around 35 cake dummies in many sizes: round, square, rectangular and heart-shaped.

Which cake dummies do we have?

Round dummies are available from 10 to 50 cm diameter, in heights of 5, 7.5, 10, 15 and 20 cm. There are also heart dummies (15, 20 and 25 cm), square dummies from 15x15 to 30x30 cm at 5 cm high, a rectangular dummy 30 x 20 x 5 cm and the Birdcage cake dummies in a set of 4. The 10 cm round dummy is also sold as a pack of 4.

What do you need a cake dummy for?

• For practice: covering with fondant, smoothing edges and trying out decoration without using up ingredients.
• For wedding cakes: one tier is often a dummy, which makes the cake lighter and more stable. A dummy is not meant to be eaten.
• For shop windows and trade fairs: the decoration looks finished at once and lasts longer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cover a dummy with fondant?

Dampen the surface lightly with water so the fondant sticks, roll it out evenly and smooth it with a smoother. How much fondant you need is explained in How much fondant do you need for a cake?.

Which height should I choose?

With 10 cm you imitate a real cake, with 5 cm a flat tier or step.
