Comma cake rings have the curved shape of a comma: a round head running out into a bent tail. They let you make cakes that look different from anything you know from a cake ring at first glance. We stock nine comma rings from Ø 12 to 28 cm, all 5 cm high.

Which comma rings do we have?

The comma ring comes in Ø 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28 cm, always 5 cm high. The small rings up to Ø 16 cm suit individual cakes or as an addition to a larger cake. From Ø 20 cm you make cakes for family and friends.

What is the comma shape good for?

  • Two commas arranged as mirror images: put two rings of the same size together and you get a round overall look in which two colours or flavours face each other, such as vanilla and chocolate.
  • A single comma: as a graphic, stand-alone cake for those who like modern designs.
  • Decorative platter: several small commas on a long board as a dessert buffet.

If you prefer something more classic, stay with the round or oval shape. Teardrop cake rings are just as soft but more symmetrical.

Tips from the bakery

Place the ring on baking paper and add the batter into the narrow tail first. Spread the mixture right into the tip with a scraper. After baking, loosen the cake from the edge with a thin knife and lift the ring off. For two halves that must fit together, bake both in the same ring and turn one over. Sponge works well because it is stable and even, as in our basic sponge recipe.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cover the comma shape with fondant?

Yes, but the tight curve is trickier than a rounded edge. Work with a well-chilled cake and leave enough fondant so it can settle into the curve.

Where can I find all the shapes?

All ring shapes are collected in the parent category cake rings. To practise decorating, take the cake decorating course in Adliswil.
