Metallic powder colours give cakes, fondant, chocolates and pastries an elegant shimmer in gold, silver, bronze or copper. This category has over 30 powder and liquid colours, plus the brushes to apply them.

What do we offer?

The metallic powder colours (3 g) come in gold, Dark Gold, copper, pink, Ruby Red and Raspberry. For larger areas there are the metallic powder colours in gold, silver and bronze at 25 g each. You will also find Glimmer powder colours (2.5 g) in silver-white, red and orange, and the Funcakes metallic powder in bronze.

For more sparkle, choose the Super Streusel glitter powder (10 g) in many shades, from gold and silver to lilac, blue, green and black. The liquid metallic colours in gold, black and ruby red come ready to use. With the Food Ethanol 96% (14 ml) and brushes from No. 3 to No. 10 or the PME brush set you can mix your own paint.

Using metallic colours well

  • Dry: brush the powder with a soft brush straight onto dry fondant, marzipan or sugar decorations for a subtle shimmer.
  • As paint: stir the powder with a few drops of food ethanol. The alcohol evaporates quickly, so the surface dries fast and takes fine lines.
  • Quantity: mix only what you need for one session. Dried-out paint is hard to reuse.
  • For chocolate, fat-soluble colours work better, see cocoa butter colours.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between powder colour and glitter powder?

Metallic powder colours tint and paint with a metallic sheen. Glitter powder gives a clearly visible sparkle and is usually dusted on.

What do I mix the powder with?

For fine painting work many pastry chefs use a high-proof alcohol. That is what the Food Ethanol 96% is for.

More sparkle in glitter and shimmer, pastes in paste and gel colours, brushes in brushes and tweezers. For a cake with golden accents, see the recipe Drip Cake.
