A number cake ring turns any birthday or anniversary into a cake that says it all: digits from 0 to 9 as baking moulds, so you can put together number cakes for any age. This category also holds a few special rings that do not fit any other shape: rectangle, modern heart, modern circle and circle within a circle.
Which rings are in this category?
- Number ring 0 to 9: one ring per digit. For a 30, an 18 or a 65, you take the two matching rings.
- Rectangle ring 18 x 6 x 2 cm: shallow, for example for bars, bases or dessert bars.
- Modern shapes, 4 cm high: modern heart Ø 14 cm, modern circle Ø 20 cm and circle within a circle Ø 22 cm for cakes with an unusual look.
How to make a number cake
Place each ring on baking paper and fill with batter. Sponge or a firm cake batter work best because they hold their shape in the ring. For a two-digit number, bake the digits separately and arrange them side by side on a large board or a cake stand. A tip from the bakery: slice the bases horizontally once cooled and fill them with cream, which gives the numbers more volume.
Cream, buttercream or fondant all work as a finish. A number-shaped cake topper adds the final touch, and you will find a selection among the cake toppers and wedding figurines.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to grease a number ring?
No, baking paper is enough. After baking, loosen the edges with a thin knife before lifting the ring.
Which other shapes are there?
Standard shapes such as round, square, heart or oval are in round cake rings, square cake rings and heart-shaped cake rings. All shapes together are in the parent category cake rings.
