Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen
Silicone baking molds are durable, shatterproof and affordable. 3D Silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal Baking tins. The most common Baking tins are usually made of aluminium or sheet metal, which are bulky. Especially in smaller kitchens, metal Baking tins take up a lot of space. Most metal Baking tins are not dishwasher-safe, as the non-stick coating can be washed off. With Silicone baking molds, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking molds are cold- and heat-resistant from -20 to 230 degrees. This means Silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked in, and cleaned in the dishwasher. There are various small Silicone molds, as well as large Silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, Donuts, muffins or Cake pops, as well as ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or ice cream. Note: even if the Silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. So always put on oven gloves and let the Silicone mold cool down properly. Unlike metal Baking tins, Silicone molds cool down more quickly. This saves you time and lets you continue working with your creations faster. Silicone is affordable compared to rubber and resistant to chemical substances and fungi. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen helper. Thanks to its surface, all mixtures can be released or turned out by bending and pulling the mold. While silicone is splinter- and shatterproof, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore, only use plastic or silicone utensils with this Silicone mold.
Frozen sweet or savoury
Cold or frozen mixtures are particularly well suited to Silicone molds. Silicone molds for desserts are the most popular. To help the mixture take on the shape, simply fill the finished mousse, ice cream or sorbet mixture into the cavities using a piping bag and spread it by pulling and pressing within the Silicone mold. You can then scrape off the excess mixture with a Spatula and add it to the next mold. Once you have filled every cavity, place the mold in the freezer and leave the treats to freeze for at least 4 hours — ideally overnight. Once the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the shapes a little. For frozen treats, Velvet effect spray works beautifully. It achieves its lovely velvet effect through freezing. You can also use cake glaze. With both Velvet effect spray and cake glaze, it is important that your mixtures are frozen. Ice cream, gelato and sorbet can be served straight away. A mousse or patisserie creation can then be left to thaw slowly in the fridge. Creativity is called for with this mold: for a starter, you could make a savoury aubergine mousse, freeze it in the mold and serve it alongside fresh bread rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served with main courses. How about home-made herb butter to go with grilled food? With silicone, anything is possible!
Baked sweet or savoury
Silicone is also great for baking. Sweet or savoury shapes can be created by baking. Whether chocolate Small cakes, marble or lemon cake — the Silicone mold adapts to your own personal taste. A Cake pop batter also works wonderfully in the mold. You can make the Cake pop batter classically sweet, with fruit or pieces of chocolate, or go savoury. You can, for example, coat the sweet Small cakes with Cake icing and then sprinkle sugar sprinkles on top. For the savoury version, a cheese and ham Bundt cake batter works well. Fill it into the cavities and bake at 180 degrees for 10–15 minutes. You can also colour the batter with Progel colors to give the shapes a great effect. Be creative and experiment.
What do I need to keep in mind when cleaning and caring for Silicone molds?
Before use, you should place your Silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. This isn't strictly necessary, but it helps extend the life of your Silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid helps the pores of the silicone surface to close more effectively. This keeps the material flexible for longer and means you'll enjoy your Silicone baking molds for longer. After the Silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5–10 minutes, you can place the mold on a kitchen towel to drip dry. Try not to rub the Baking tin dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is a very good fluff-catcher, so it can happen that your Silicone mold ends up covered in fluff if you wipe it dry with a kitchen towel. Once the mold is dry, you can use it straight away. Additional greasing is not necessary.
After baking delicious Small cakes or freezing ice cream, you can simply put the Silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many Baking tins usually cannot go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the detergent. This is not the case with silicone. Depending on how often you use the Silicone mold, we recommend that you gas it out 1–2 times a year. To do this, place the Silicone mold in the centre of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat causes certain substances in the Silicone baking mold to evaporate. Occasionally, a white layer or white spots may form on the Silicone mold. This happens particularly often if you haven't used the Silicone mold for a long time. Simply place the mold in the water bath with washing-up liquid — this will dissolve the greasy film from the Silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold Silicone molds together and store them in a space-saving way. Don't worry! The Silicone mold will always return to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal Baking tins!
