Cool bags & ice packs

A cool bag gets chocolates, chocolate bars, cakes and ice cream home from the shop, to a party or through the post in good shape. In summer, chocolate softens quickly in the car or in a rucksack, loses its shine and turns a dull grey. Here you will find cool bags in several sizes, flat or with a base, plus a matching ice pack.

Which cool bag for what?

The flat cool bags in 35 × 30 × 8 cm and 50 × 40 × 8 cm are meant for anything that needs little height: chocolate bars, chocolate boxes and slices of cake. For taller items there are cool bags with a base:

• 25 × 22 × 15 cm for a small cake, ice cream or a few boxes of chocolates
• 25 × 25 × 26 cm and 31 × 31 × 30 cm for a cake in its cake box
• 35 × 35 × 30 cm for larger cake boxes
• 50 × 33 × 20 cm for several tubs of ice cream or a whole shopping trip

Tips from our kitchen for keeping things cool

• Chill the ice pack thoroughly: put the ice pack (13 × 9 cm) in the freezer in good time so it is frozen right through.
• Never put chocolate straight onto the ice pack: the cold spot causes condensation, which leaves white marks on chocolate. Keep the box, a piece of card or a cloth in between.
• Pack at the last minute: keep cakes in the fridge, ice cream in the freezer and chocolates somewhere cool until you leave, then keep the bag closed.
• Add extra insulation when posting in summer: fill gaps in the parcel with paper or padding and avoid sending it just before the weekend.

Which cool bag do I need for a cake?

Choose a cool bag with a base so the cake stays level. The cake box is what counts: its footprint and height should be a little smaller than the bag. The 25 × 25 × 26, 31 × 31 × 30 and 35 × 35 × 30 cm sizes are the ones meant for cake boxes.

How many ice packs do I need?

That depends on how much you are carrying and on the weather. The bigger and fuller the bag and the warmer the day, the more ice packs you add, spread around the sides rather than only on the bottom.

Can I reuse the cool bag?

Yes, as long as it is undamaged: wipe it out after use, let it dry and store it flat. You will find more handy helpers in our tools and accessories.
