Happy Sprinkles
Hamburg, 2017. Lilli has just signed the lease on her café in Eimsbüttel, with a clearly defined idea in mind: cupcakes that stand out. That show colour. That are different from everything else on the table. The problem: in Germany, the sprinkles for this simply do not exist. What is standard in American supermarkets – colourful, glittery, unusual decoration sprinkles in a hundred shapes and colours – is almost entirely absent from the German market. Lilli's solution is provisional and pragmatic: she travels to the USA and comes back with a full suitcase. This repeats itself. And at some point in 2018 the logical conclusion becomes unavoidable: instead of importing again and again, she founds Happy Sprinkles. Not as a business idea derived from a market analysis – but as an answer to a real experience. Lilli knows first-hand what is missing, because she herself has worked with this shortage. She knows how sprinkles should look on a cake, because she decorates cakes. And she knows that 'good enough' is not a category that interests her. Happy Sprinkles comes into being in Hamburg with a standard that is higher from the outset than the market expects: sprinkles as an independent design element, not a by-product. Hand-selected blends in which colour, shape and size are coordinated. Seasonal collections that stage a theme rather than merely quoting it. Today Happy Sprinkles delivers to over 30 countries, develops new collections every year and has become one of the most cited decoration brands in the international cake design community. At miniSchoggi, Happy Sprinkles products are available – the range is continuously expanded.

Lilli did not want to found a company. She wanted to bake cupcakes. For her café in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel, which she opened in June 2017, she was looking for what would set her creations apart from everything else: colourful, unusual, modern sprinkles. Not the beige sugar balls from the supermarket shelf – but what she had discovered on trips to the USA: strong colours, extraordinary shapes, glitter, blends that bring joy before the baking even starts. In Germany, this simply did not exist.
So Lilli packed a suitcase, flew to the USA and brought back what she needed. And because the demand – from friends, customers, other bakers – did not subside, the pattern repeated itself. Until 2018, when the conclusion was no longer avoidable: if these products do not exist in Germany, they must be made. Happy Sprinkles comes into being – a start-up that brings a clear attitude from the outset: sprinkles are not a by-product of baking. They are an independent design element that transforms a cake from a dessert into a statement.
What 'Hand-Selected' Means – and Why It Makes a Difference
The term that has accompanied Happy Sprinkles from the start is hand-selected. It sounds like marketing language – but it is a craft description of a production principle that directly influences the quality of the result. A sprinkle blend consists of multiple elements: nonpareils – the tiny, uniformly round sugar balls that set the base tone of a blend –, larger sugar pearls in various colours and surface qualities, chocolate pearls with high-quality chocolate filling, sugar rods, cylinders, stars and further shaped sugar elements. In industrial mass production, these elements are mixed by weight proportions – the result is often random and rarely coherent.
At Happy Sprinkles, every blend is assembled according to design criteria: which colour tones complement each other, which clash? Which size combination produces the desired visual weight on a cake surface? Which shape elements carry the blend's theme without overloading it? These are design questions – and they are consciously asked and answered at Happy Sprinkles before a new blend goes into production. The result is blends that make a statement the moment the jar is opened. That go together. That have an aesthetic, not a random outcome.
Seasonal Collections – Design Projects, Not Product Updates
The seasonal range is one of the creative core areas of Happy Sprinkles. Every year new blends are created for Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentine's Day and further occasions. What distinguishes these collections is their depth: they are not simply equipped with 'Christmas colours' or 'Easter shapes', but conceived as complete designs. Motifs that stage a theme rather than merely suggesting it. Colour tones that are coherent in themselves. Shape elements that carry the seasonal theme with surprising details – unexpected shapes alongside classic ones, textural differences that create depth on the cake.
The pace at which new collections appear reflects a product development that consistently works with trends. Happy Sprinkles has built a strong presence on the social networks of the international cake design community – and uses this presence not merely as a marketing channel, but as a sensor for what the community wants next. New blends are observed, commented on, recommended. This makes the design process fast and responsive.
The Range – From Sprinkle Blend to Full Range
What began in 2018 with a single product category has expanded over the years. Alongside the sprinkle blends of nonpareils, pearls, rods and shaped sugar elements, the range today includes chocolate pearls in various sizes with high-quality filling, drips for drip cakes in various flavours and colours, food colourings and packaging boxes for cupcakes and cakes. The ambition behind this is clear: everything needed for decorating a cake from a single source – and in the same design quality that characterises the sprinkle blends. With over 30 delivery countries and a range that grows annually, Happy Sprinkles has left the local gap from which the company emerged far behind.

Happy Sprinkles at miniSchoggi
Sprinkles come last – and that is precisely why they matter so much. Not because they can save the cake, but because they give it the final touch: colour, character, the small surplus of joy that turns a well-decorated cake into an unforgettable one. A handful of the right blend on a cupcake, a pinch of glitter on the ganache, a seasonally matched decoration on the birthday cake – these moments take seconds and last in photographs, in memories and on cakes that people remember.
Happy Sprinkles has made this moment its core competence. What Lilli developed in Hamburg in 2018 from personal frustration is today an internationally recognised range that stands apart from other decoration brands through a quality that cannot be bought: genuine design ambition. Every blend was assembled by someone who knows how colour works on a cake surface. Every seasonal collection is a design project, not a product update. Every chocolate pearl, every nonpareil, every shaped sugar element is part of a composition that was conceived as a whole.
miniSchoggi carries Happy Sprinkles because the range is relevant for everyone who does not want to stop at standard when decorating. For home bakers who want to give their cupcakes something that cannot be found at the nearest supermarket. For cake designers looking for a seasonal collection that genuinely fits the season. For everyone who knows that the final touch deserves just as much thought as the first. The range at miniSchoggi is continuously expanded – with the blends and products that suit the occasions for which our customers bake and decorate.
An empty suitcase. An idea. A brand making bakeries more colourful worldwide. Happy Sprinkles.
