Kisag

Kisag

'Almost everyone knows someone who has a Kisag device in their kitchen.' This sentence comes from a Kisag CEO and is not a marketing exaggeration – it describes a reality. The Kisag cream whipper, patented in 1958, sold over one million units worldwide during the 1960s and 1970s. In Switzerland it became a generic term. Anyone who knew whipped cream from a dispenser knew Kisag. Behind this product stands a company from Bellach in Canton Solothurn, founded by Walter Kissling in 1945 as a foundry – from aluminium waste, at a time when kitchen appliances were still in their infancy. Today, 80 years later, the range encompasses over 200 products: kitchen tools in wood, silicone and stainless steel, professional equipment for the hospitality industry, whippers, safety gas burners, peelers, rolling pins and much more. Kisag has been part of the VEBO Cooperative since 2017, still produces in Bellach and actively contributes to the professional inclusion of people with disabilities as part of this group. Swiss Quality, social responsibility, 80 years of kitchen innovation. At miniSchoggi, selected Kisag products are available.

A Company You Know from the Kitchen Before You Know Its Name

Kisag products are so present in Swiss households that many people learn the name only in hindsight. The cream whipper on the kitchen shelf: Kisag. The peeler in the drawer: Kisag. The wooden kitchen utensils that have served faithfully for years: Kisag. This quiet ubiquity is not coincidence but the result of 80 years of consistent product development guided by a single question: what makes cooking easier, more precise, more enjoyable?

Walter Kissling, the founder, first asked himself this question in 1945 – out of necessity. As former head of the Raw Materials Economy section in the wartime economic office, he had developed a process to recycle aluminium foil. The pure aluminium thus obtained he used for kitchen equipment: chip cutters, fruit presses, potato peeling machines, thin-walled cast aluminium pans. Products needed in the post-war period. Products that worked.

The Cream Whipper – a Patent, a Bestseller, a Generic Term

Post-war kitchens relied on hand whisks. Making whipped cream was work – rhythmic, tiring work. Kissling's solution was elegant: a cartridge filled with nitrous oxide (N₂O), a pressure mechanism, a valve with which the output quantity can be regulated. Patented in 1958. 'The laborious production with a whisk becomes unnecessary,' states the patent application.

What follows is market history. The Kisag cream whipper sold over one million units worldwide in the 1960s and 1970s. In Switzerland it became synonymous – whoever had a cream whipper had a Kisag. This level of market penetration only emerges when a product genuinely solves a problem and does so reliably. The idea of using cream whippers in molecular gastronomy – for foams, espumas, cold and warm emulsions – revived the product decades later. Today the Kisag Whipper is available in various versions for home bakers and professional chefs alike.

From Foundry to Full-Range Supplier – What Kisag Is Today

That Kisag did not remain with the cream whipper lies in the company's logic: what makes cooking easier belongs in the range. Peelers with ultra-sharp blades for potatoes, cucumbers, asparagus or tomatoes. Immersion blenders of professional quality for the hospitality industry. Safety gas burners and rechauds. Silicone kitchen tools, spatulas, pastry scrapers, garlic presses. Wooden kitchen tools – including rolling pins, wooden spoons and other baking accessories, made from exclusively controlled sustainable wood since 2002.

Over 200 products in the web shop, the factory outlet in Bellach and specialist and retail trade. Kisag operates not only as its own brand but also as manufacturer and supplier for OEMs and customer labels of large retailers. The technical know-how from 80 years of product development therefore also stands behind products sold under other names.

Bellach, VEBO and the Social Dimension

In 2017, the VEBO Cooperative – the largest workshop for people with disabilities in Canton Solothurn – takes over Kisag AG. An unusual transaction: VEBO operates sheltered workshops for people with disabilities and sought meaningful production activities for these workshops. Kisag products – assembly, finishing, packaging of kitchen equipment – are well suited. The acquisition creates synergies: the company receives stable ownership, the workshops receive meaningful work. All jobs in Bellach are preserved.

Kisag had already lived this social stance before the VEBO takeover: in 2014 the then family business received the Solothurner Sozialstern award for its commitment to people with mental health challenges. The transition to VEBO is therefore not a break in corporate culture but a reinforcement of something already present. The headquarters stays in Bellach. Production stays in Switzerland. The values stay the same.

Kisag at miniSchoggi

What distinguishes a good kitchen tool from a mediocre one is not always immediately visible – but it is immediately felt. A rolling pin that lies evenly and does not wobble. A peeler that grips on the first stroke rather than sliding. A silicone scraper that cleanly wipes the bowl wall without residue. These are not coincidences. They arise when a company has done nothing for 80 years but develop, test and improve kitchen equipment.

miniSchoggi carries Kisag because the range is made for people who value precision in the kitchen – not as an end in itself but because precise tools deliver better results. An evenly rolled dough does not begin with technique but with the wood held in one's hands. Kisag delivers exactly that: tools that do their job quietly and reliably, decade after decade. The range available at miniSchoggi includes rolling pins and kitchen tools and is continuously expanded.

Founded in Bellach in 1945. 80 years young today. Still Swiss Quality, still joy in cooking. Kisag.
