Victorinox is one of those rare brands that needs no introduction. The red shield with the white cross is recognised worldwide – not through advertising alone, but through decades of lived quality. What Karl Elsener began in 1884 in the Swiss village of Ibach was more than a craftsman's workshop: it was an attempt to translate an idea of quality into something tangible. That endeavour succeeded – and it holds true to this day. Victorinox is a family business now in its fifth generation, still headquartered in Ibach in the canton of Schwyz, just a few kilometres from where it all began. The range has grown far beyond the original pocket knife: kitchen and professional knives, watches, travel gear, clothing and fragrances all now carry the red shield. What connects every product is a conviction that has never changed: things should be built to last. Not for a season – but for a lifetime.
Ibach, Canton Schwyz, 1884. Karl Elsener is a trained cutler, around thirty years old and concerned – not about his own livelihood, but about that of his trade. Many Swiss craftsmen are emigrating at this time because domestic industry cannot offer them sufficient work. Elsener founds an association to support Swiss cutlers and shortly afterwards opens his own workshop. His goal is not wealth, but continuity: keeping good craftsmanship in Switzerland, for Swiss hands.
Seven years later, in 1891, Elsener delivers knives to the Swiss Army for the first time – what would become the soldier's knife. In 1897 comes the officer's knife, that legendary pocket knife with the red handle that the world would come to know. Elsener names his company after his mother Victoria – and after «Inox», the French word for stainless steel, which the company begins working with in the 1920s. Victorinox is born.
What began in a Swiss mountain canton workshop became one of the most recognised brands of the 20th century. The spread of Victorinox followed no aggressive expansion plan, but rather the logic of a product that convinced by its own merits. American GIs discovered the Swiss officer's knife during the Second World War and brought it home – as a tool, as a souvenir, as a symbol of ingenuity and reliability. The term «Swiss Army Knife» established itself in the English language as a standalone expression used far beyond the product itself.
In the decades that followed, Victorinox grew steadily – without leaving its headquarters, without abandoning its family character. The product range was extended, new categories were added, international markets were developed. Today Victorinox is present in over 120 countries. And all pocket knives are still made in Ibach.
«Swiss Made» appears on many products. At Victorinox, it is not a marketing formula – it is a production decision made anew each and every year. Manufacturing in Switzerland is more expensive, more demanding and less flexible than relocating production abroad would be. Victorinox makes that decision anyway. Or perhaps precisely because of that.
At Victorinox, «Swiss Made» reflects a commitment to quality built around longevity. A Victorinox knife should not need replacing after two years. It should be repairable, resharpenable, maintainable. This standard shapes the choice of materials, the craftsmanship and the construction of every single product. It also explains why Victorinox is one of the few brands to offer its own repair service – for knives older than some of its customers.
Victorinox today is far more than a knife manufacturer. The range spans five core areas, all sharing the same foundation: meticulous craftsmanship, premium materials and a design philosophy that treats function and form as equals.
Pocket knives – in dozens of versions, from the simple basic model to the multi-tool – form the historical heart of the brand. Kitchen and professional knives cover both professional and home cooking: chef's knives, bread knives, paring knives, filleting knives – every blade developed for its purpose, every one made from high-quality Swiss steel. Watches carry the distinctive Victorinox aesthetic into another everyday product. Travel gear – bags, suitcases, backpacks – combines robustness with well-considered functionality. Clothing and fragrances complete the brand's identity as a comprehensive lifestyle offering.

miniSchoggi carries Victorinox because both worlds apply the same standard: quality you can feel. Not as an abstract claim, but as a concrete experience in the hand – on the first cut, in daily use, after years of faithful service.
Those who bake, decorate and create at miniSchoggi work with care. The tools they use should match that care. A knife from Victorinox is not a quick purchase – it is a decision in favour of something lasting. Something that can be passed on. This shared attitude connects Victorinox and miniSchoggi in a way that goes beyond the product range.
