Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen
Silicone baking molds are long-lasting, break-resistant and affordable. 3D silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal baking tins. The most common baking tins are usually made of aluminium or sheet metal, which are bulky. Especially in smaller kitchens, metal baking tins take up a lot of space. Most metal baking tins cannot go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating may be washed off. With silicone baking molds, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking molds are cold- and heat-resistant from -40 to 250 degrees. This means silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked in and cleaned in the dishwasher. There are all kinds of small silicone molds, as well as large silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, Donuts, muffins or Cake pops, but also ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or ice cream. Note: even if the Silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. So always put on oven gloves and let the silicone mold cool down thoroughly. Unlike metal baking tins, silicone molds cool down faster. This saves you time and you can continue working with your creations more quickly. Silicone is affordable compared to rubber and resistant to chemicals and fungi. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen helper. Thanks to its surface, all mixtures can be released or turned out by bending and pulling the mold. While silicone is splinter- and break-resistant, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore, only use plastic or silicone utensils with this Silicone mold.
Frozen — sweet or savoury
Cold or frozen mixtures are particularly well suited for silicone molds. Silicone molds for desserts are the most popular. To help the mixture take the shape of the mold, simply fill the finished mousse, ice cream or sorbet mixture into the cavities using a piping bag and spread it by pulling and pressing within the Silicone mold. You can then scrape off any excess mixture with a Spatula and add it to the next mold. Once you have filled every cavity, place the mold in the freezer and leave the treats to freeze for at least 4 hours — ideally overnight. Once the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the shapes a little. For frozen delicacies, Velvet effect spray works beautifully. It gets its lovely velvet effect through freezing. You can also use Cake glaze. Simply stick a toothpick into the shape, dip your delicious pieces into the Cake glaze and leave them to set for a moment. With both the Velvet effect spray and the Cake glaze, it is important that your mixtures are frozen. Ice cream, gelato and sorbet can be served straight away. A mousse or patisserie can then be left to thaw slowly in the fridge. Creativity is called for with this mold: for a starter, you could make a savoury aubergine mousse, freeze it in the mold and serve it with fresh bread rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served alongside main courses. How about homemade herb butter for the barbecue? With silicone, anything is possible!
Baked — sweet or savoury
Silicone is also great for baking. Sweet or savoury shapes can be created through baking — whether it's chocolate small cakes, marble or lemon cake. The Silicone mold adapts to your very personal taste. A Cake pop batter also works very well in the mold. You can make the Cake pop batter in the classic sweet way, with fruit or chocolate chips, or go savoury. You can coat the sweet small cakes with Cake icing and then add sugar sprinkles on top. For the savoury version, a cheese and ham Bundt cake batter works perfectly. Fill it into the cavities and bake at 180 degrees for 10–15 minutes. You can also colour the batter with Pro Gel colors to give the shapes a great effect. Be creative and experiment to your heart's content.
What do I need to bear in mind when cleaning and caring for silicone molds?
Before use, you should place your Silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. This is not strictly necessary, but it helps extend the life of your Silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid helps the pores of the silicone surface close up more effectively. This keeps the material flexible for longer and means you'll enjoy your silicone baking molds for longer. After the Silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5–10 minutes, you can place it on a kitchen towel to drain. Try not to rub the baking tin dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is a very good lint-catcher, so if you dry the baking tin with a kitchen towel, it can end up covered in lint. Once the mold is dry, you can use it straight away. There is no need to grease it additionally.
After baking delicious small cakes or freezing ice cream, you can simply put the Silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many baking tins usually cannot go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the detergent. This is not the case with silicone. Depending on how often you use the Silicone mold, we recommend degassing it 1–2 times a year. To do this, place the Silicone mold in the centre of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat ensures that certain substances in the silicone baking mold evaporate. From time to time, a white layer or white spots may form on the Silicone mold. This happens particularly often if you haven't used the Silicone mold for a long time. Simply place the mold in the water bath with washing-up liquid and the film of grease will dissolve from the Silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold silicone molds together and store them in a space-saving way. Don't worry! The Silicone mold always returns to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal baking tins!
