Where do cake pops come from and who invented it?

The cake pops originated in the United States and were invented by pastry chef Angie Dudley. In 2008, she published her first book, "Cake Pops: Tips, Tricks, and Recipes for More Than 40 Irresistible Mini Treats," in which she introduced her idea of cake pops. Dudley creates the little cake balls by crumbling baked cake, mixing it with buttercream, and shaping it into little balls that are then placed on sticks and covered with chocolate or frosting. Cake pops quickly became a popular trend in the baking world and are now available in many different variations and flavors.

How to make cake pops at home?

To make cake pops at home, follow these steps:
1. Bake a cake of your choice. You can use a plain cake from a box mix or try a recipe of your choice. Let the cake cool completely.
2. Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl. You can do this with your hands or a fork.
3. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of frosting. You can use store-bought frosting or make your own by mixing powdered sugar with a little milk and vanilla paste until you reach the desired consistency. Mix the frosting thoroughly with the cake crumbs until they form a malleable mass.
4. Form small balls from the cake frosting mixture. Roll the dough between your hands to form even balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
5. Place the balls in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set.
6. Melt Candy Melts or chocolate to taste. Dip the ends of the lollipop stems into the melted chocolate and carefully insert them into the balls. This will firmly attach the stems to the balls.
7. Dip the cake pops completely into the melted chocolate or Candy Melts. Gently turn them to make sure they are completely covered. Let the excess chocolate drip off.
8. Decorate the cake pops as desired. You can use sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or food coloring to embellish them.
9. Place the cake pops upright in a Styrofoam block or baking dish to dry.
10. When the chocolate is set, your cake pops are ready to serve! You can store them in a prepared container or package them in party bags to give as gifts.
Have fun making and enjoying your homemade cake pops!
