Which piping nozzle is suitable for what?

Each piping nozzle has its very own areas of application. The hole and star nozzles are particularly well-known, but there are countless other practical and exciting shapes.

Perforated grommets

Perforated nozzles are used for decorating various pastries or for filling. Various decorations can also be piped using small and large dots. Macarons, éclairs and choux are piped with a 10 mm perforated nozzle, giving them the perfect size and making them wonderfully even. These nozzles are also used to pipe shortbread cookies, depending on their shape, for example to create long tongues or hearts made from two drops. A slightly smaller nozzle is used for filling éclairs, choux and macarons. A Bergspitz praline can be piped with firm ganache. Very small round nozzles are used for a subtle garland on the edge of the cake or for delicate cake decorations. These can also be used to fill the center of a buttercream flower if you don't have a pollen nozzle to hand.

Star nozzles

There are particularly many possible applications for star nozzles in the area of cake decorations. Different sizes and piping techniques can be used to create countless different decorations for cakes and cupcakes. Elegant cupcake toppings can also be created with large star nozzles. The French star nozzle has many small prongs and is therefore also suitable for piped pastries. We particularly like to use them for éclairs.

Russian grommets

With these large nozzles, you can pipe great flowers and patterns out of buttercream in no time at all. The special shape creates the entire pattern at once, but often requires a certain stability of the mixture. It looks particularly great when you combine several buttercream colors.

Leaf grommet

Leaf nozzles are used to pipe various leaves, usually made from buttercream. The leaves are best piped into the empty spaces between the flowers at the very end.

Special grommets

All other nozzles often have a very specific area of application. The name usually gives the purpose away, for example the filling flower nozzle or the Berliner filling nozzle. The dahlia or petal nozzle is used to spray the petals of various flowers. Star ribbon nozzles are used for decorations and especially for beautiful basket patterns. In the bakery, you will also find Berliner filling nozzles, which can be used to give various treats a sweet filling.

What is trained with grommets?

Pipe nozzles are always used when the deposited mixture needs to have a specific shape. If you are filling a compote into a shortcrust pastry base or creating delicious molded chocolates, a piping bag with a cut-off tip is sufficient. However, suitable nozzles are essential for filling éclairs or doughnuts almost invisibly, for elegantly decorated cupcakes, cakes decorated with buttercream flowers, uniform macarons and fine piped cookies.

If you want to create intricate lettering with egg white icing or writing chocolate, it is better to choose a cornet paper than a small round nozzle. The latter forms very beautiful lines, but the control over the line thickness and the lines is better with a paper cornet.

Which cream is suitable for spraying flowers?

To make fine flowers such as roses, dahlias, ranunculus or even those with Russian spouts, the chosen mixture needs to be very stable. Buttercream is therefore the most popular. There are further subdivisions of buttercream, here it is important to choose a rather firm type that is also easy to color for aesthetic reasons.

What accessories and adapters are available for piping nozzles?

To decorate cupcakes and muffins, make cake decorations and for countless other processes, piping bags and aluminum, plastic or stainless steel nozzles are the perfect helpers. Additional accessories make the work even easier. Handling the piping bag when filling the mixture is often not easy. However, you can simply place the piping bag with the folded edge in the piping bag holder so that you have both hands free to fill the mixture.

Different colors and nozzles are often used to decorate a cake with buttercream. Adapters can be used to avoid needing a separate piping bag for each color and nozzle combination. The inner part of the adapter is placed in the piping bag and the desired nozzle is screwed onto the outer part. This means that the nozzle can be changed again and again during the work process.

Buttercream flowers are also often made and then placed on the cake. A flower nail helps with this. You hold and turn it while you create the flower on it. The finished creation is then placed on the cake or cupcake using a flower lifter.

Cleaning stainless steel nozzles is child's play as they are dishwasher-safe. A nozzle brush can work wonders for other nozzles, particularly narrow openings or for very sticky substances.

Can piping bags be washed and reused?

Whether a piping bag is reusable or not depends on the material of the bag as well as the mass that is filled with it. Very thin bags tear quickly if they are used several times. The disposable piping bags in our range are all very sturdy and can also be washed and reused. The reusable piping bags made of thicker plastic are particularly suitable and can even be put in the dishwasher. However, reusable piping bags should only be used for batters that will be baked afterwards. For reasons of hygiene, creams that remain cold or similar should always be piped with fresh piping bags.

How are syringe nozzles cleaned?

Once the cake is decorated, the topping adorns the cake and the éclairs are baked and filled, it's time to tidy up. Pipe the leftover filling onto cling film or into a container so that it can be reused later. Remove the nozzle from the piping bag and dispose of it unless you want to use it for other pastries. The nozzle is very easy to clean. Many of our products in this category are made of high-quality stainless steel and have a seamless finish. They can easily be cleaned in the dishwasher. Aluminum nozzles can also be cleaned quickly by hand and therefore also have a long service life.
