Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen

Silicone baking molds are durable, break-resistant and inexpensive. 3D silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal baking tins. The best-known baking tins are mostly made of aluminium or sheet metal, which are bulky. Especially in smaller kitchens, metal baking tins take up a lot of space. Most metal baking tins must not go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating can be washed off. With silicone baking molds, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking molds are resistant to cold and heat from -40 to 250 degrees. So silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked and cleaned in the dishwasher. There is a wide variety of small silicone molds, but also large silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, donuts, muffins or cake pops, but also ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or ice cream. Attention: even though the silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. Therefore always wear oven gloves and let the silicone mold cool down well. Unlike metal baking tins, silicone molds cool down faster. This saves you time and you can continue processing your creations more quickly. Silicone is inexpensive compared to rubber and resistant to chemicals and mould. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen helper. Thanks to the surface, all mixtures can be released or turned out by bending and pulling the mold. Although silicone is splinter- and break-resistant, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore only use plastic or silicone utensils for this silicone mold.

Frozen sweet or savoury

Cold or frozen mixtures are particularly well suited to silicone molds. Silicone molds are most popular for desserts. To make the mixture take the shape of the mold, simply fill the cavities with the finished mousse, ice cream or sorbet mixture using a piping bag and spread it in the silicone mold by pulling and pressing. You can then scrape off the excess mixture with a spatula and put it into the next mold. Once you have filled every cavity, place the mold in the freezer and let the treats freeze for at least 4 hours. Ideally even overnight. Once the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the motifs a little. For frozen treats, the velvet effect spray is a good choice. It gets its beautiful velvet effect from freezing. You can use cake glaze. Simply insert a toothpick into the motif, dip your delicious pieces into the cake glaze and let it stand for a while. For both the velvet effect spray and the cake glaze, it is important that your mixtures are frozen. Ice cream, gelato and sorbet can be served straight away. Let a mousse or patisserie slowly thaw in the refrigerator. Creativity is key with this mold: for a starter, you could make a savoury aubergine mousse, freeze it in the mold and serve it with fresh breakfast rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served as main courses. How about homemade herb butter to go with grilled food? With silicone, anything is possible!

Baked sweet or savoury

Silicone is also suitable for baking. Sweet or savoury motifs can be created through baking. Whether chocolate small cakes, marble or lemon cake. The silicone mold adapts to your very personal taste. A cake pop batter is also very well suited to the mold. You can make the cake pop batter in a classic sweet version, with fruit or chocolate pieces, or in a savoury version. The sweet small cakes can, for example, be coated with cake icing and then sprinkled with sugar sprinkles. For the savoury variant, a cheese and ham Bundt cake batter is a good option. Fill the cavities with it and bake at 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes. You can also colour the batter with gel colors to give the motif a great effect. Be creative and try things out.

What to consider when cleaning and caring for silicone molds

Before use, you should place your silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. This is not strictly necessary, but it contributes to the longevity of your silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid closes the pores of the silicone surface better. This keeps the material flexible for longer, and you will enjoy your silicone baking molds for longer. After the silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5-10 minutes, you can now place the mold on a kitchen towel to drain. Try not to rub the baking mold dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is a very good lint magnet. So it can happen that your silicone mold becomes covered in lint if you dry the baking mold with the kitchen towel. Once the mold is dry, you can use it right away. Additional greasing is not necessary.
After you have baked delicious small cakes or frozen ice cream, you can simply put the silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many baking molds usually must not go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the washing liquid. This is not the case with silicone. Depending on how often you use the silicone mold, we recommend that you air out your silicone mold once or twice a year. To do this, place the silicone mold in the middle of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat ensures that certain substances in the silicone baking mold evaporate. Occasionally a white film or white spots can form on the silicone mold. This happens especially often if you have not used the silicone mold for a long time. To remedy this, simply place the mold in the water bath with washing-up liquid. This dissolves the grease film from the silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold silicone molds and store them in a space-saving way. Don't worry! The silicone mold always returns to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal baking tins!
