Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen

Silicone baking molds are durable, break-proof and inexpensive. 3D silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal baking tins. The best-known baking tins are mostly made of aluminium or sheet metal, which are bulky. Especially in smaller kitchens, metal baking tins take up a lot of space. Most metal baking tins must not go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating can be washed off. With silicone baking molds, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking molds are cold- and heat-resistant from -40 to 250 degrees. So silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked and cleaned in the dishwasher. There are all kinds of small silicone molds, but also large silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, donuts, muffins or cake pops, but also ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or glacé. Note: even though the silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. Therefore always wear oven gloves and let the silicone mold cool down well. Unlike metal baking tins, silicone molds cool down faster. This saves you time and you can process your creation more quickly. Silicone is inexpensive compared to rubber and resistant to chemicals and mould. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen helper. Thanks to the surface, all mixtures can be released or turned out by bending and pulling the mold. Although silicone is splinter- and break-proof, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore only use plastic or silicone utensils with this silicone mold.

Frozen sweet or savoury

Cold or frozen mixtures are particularly well suited to silicone molds. Silicone molds are most popular for desserts. So that the mixture takes the shape of the mold, you can simply fill the cavities with the finished mousse, glace or sorbet mixture using a piping bag and spread it in the silicone mold by pulling and pressing. You can then scrape off the excess mixture with a spatula and put it into the next mold. Once you have filled every cavity, place the mold in the freezer and let the treats freeze for at least 4 hours. Ideally even overnight. Once the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the motifs a little. Velvet effect spray is a good choice for frozen treats. It gets its beautiful velvet effect from freezing. You can use cake glaze. Simply insert a toothpick into the motif, dip your delicious pieces into the cake glaze and let it stand for a while. With both the velvet effect spray and the cake glaze, it is important that your mixtures are frozen. Glace, ice cream and sorbet can be served straight away. Let a mousse or patisserie thaw slowly in the refrigerator. Creativity is key with this mold: for a starter you could, for example, make savoury aubergine mousse, freeze it in the mold and serve it with fresh breakfast rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served as main courses. How about homemade herb butter with grilled food? With silicone, anything is possible!

Baked sweet or savoury

Silicone is also suitable for baking. This way, sweet or savoury motifs can be created by baking. Whether chocolate small cakes, marble or lemon cake. The silicone mold adapts to your very personal taste. A cake pop batter is also very well suited to the mold. You can make the cake pop batter classically sweet, with fruit or chocolate pieces, or savoury. The sweet small cakes can, for example, be coated with cake icing and then sprinkled with sugar sprinkles. For the savoury version, a cheese and ham Bundt cake batter is a good choice. Fill the cavities with it and bake at 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes. You can also colour the batter with gel colors to give the motif a great effect. Be creative and experiment.

What to consider when cleaning and caring for silicone molds

Before use, you should place your silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. This is not strictly necessary, but it contributes to the longevity of your silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid helps the pores of the silicone surface close better. This keeps the material flexible for a long time and you will enjoy your silicone baking molds for longer. After the silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5-10 minutes, you can now place the mold on a kitchen towel to drain. Try not to rub the baking mold dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is a very good lint magnet. So it can happen that your silicone mold becomes covered in lint if you dry the baking mold with the kitchen towel. Once the mold is dry, you can use it straight away. Additional greasing is not necessary.
After you have baked delicious small cakes or frozen ice, you can simply put the silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many baking molds are usually not allowed in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the wash liquor. This is not the case with silicone. Depending on how often you use the silicone mold, we recommend that you bake out your silicone mold once or twice a year. To do this, place the silicone mold in the middle of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat causes certain substances in the silicone baking mold to evaporate. Occasionally a white layer or white spots can form on the silicone mold. This happens particularly often if you have not used the silicone mold for a long time. To deal with this, simply place the mold in the water bath with washing-up liquid. The fat film then detaches from the silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold silicone molds and store them in a space-saving way. Don't worry! The silicone mold always returns to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal baking tins!
