The black sugar of Amami Oshima
has notes of chocolate and licorice that will not leave anyone indifferent. Try it with a fruit salad or in a curd dish.
Smooth and fragrant. Amami Oshima is a wild and untouched island in the Nansei archipelago that stretches from Kyushu (island of Japan) to Taiwan. There, the sacred nature still nurtures many legends and animistic beliefs.
This wonderful island enjoys an exceptional climate that allows for four sugar cane harvests per year. The sloping, rocky fields require difficult harvesting by hand. 200 years ago, the end of the harvest was celebrated with a tribal trance.
Black sugar is 100% natural, mild, fragrant and healthy.
A surprising taste, a unique manufacturing process.
Black sugar is made from fresh sugar cane that is washed and rinsed before processing. It is then cold pressed. The juice from this first pressing is boiled down over a wood fire without the addition of water, white sugar or syrup and is then left to rest for 5 days. The resulting syrup is crystallized and is available in pieces or semolina.
A pure pleasure, authentic and delicate, to be enjoyed at any time like a delicacy.
Its chocolate and licorice flavor is irresistible when the sugar is crushed on fruit and in pastries. This black sugar from Japan leaves no one indifferent. The sugar can be sprinkled over various desserts such as a lemon parfait, a banana mousse or a different topping for crème brûlée? Try it out. It will melt in your mouth.
