Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen

Silicone baking molds are long-lasting, unbreakable and inexpensive. 3D silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal baking tins. The best-known baking tins are mostly made of aluminium or sheet metal, which are bulky. Especially in smaller kitchens, metal baking tins take up a lot of space. Most metal baking tins must not go in the dishwasher, as otherwise the non-stick coating can be washed off. With silicone baking molds, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking molds are cold- and heat-resistant from -40 to 250 degrees. So silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked and cleaned in the dishwasher. There are all kinds of small silicone molds, but also large silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, donuts, muffins or cake pops, but also ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or glacé. Caution: even if the silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. Therefore always wear oven gloves and let the silicone mold cool down well. In contrast to metal baking tins, silicone molds cool down faster. This saves you time and you can process your creation more quickly. Silicone is inexpensive compared to rubber and resistant to chemicals and mould. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen helper. Thanks to the surface, all masses can be released by bending and pulling the mold or turned out. Although silicone is splinter- and break-proof, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore only use plastic or silicone cutlery for this silicone mold.

Frozen sweet or savoury

Cold or frozen mixtures are especially well suited to silicone molds. Silicone molds are most popular for desserts. So that the mixture takes the shape of the mold, you can simply fill the finished mousse, glace or sorbet mixture into the cavities with a piping bag and spread it in the silicone mold by pulling and pressing. You can then scrape off the excess mixture with a spatula and put it into the next mold. Once you have filled every cavity, place the mold in the freezer and let the treats freeze for at least 4 hours. Best of all overnight. As soon as the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the motifs a little. For frozen delicacies, Velvet Spray is a good option. It gets its beautiful velvet effect from freezing. You can use cake glaze. Simply stick a toothpick into the motif, dip your delicious pieces into the cake glaze and let everything stand for a while. With Velvet Spray and also with cake glaze, it is important that your masses are frozen. Glace, ice cream and sorbet can be served immediately. A mousse or patisserie is left to thaw slowly in the refrigerator. Creativity is in demand with this mold: for a starter you could, for example, make a savoury aubergine mousse, freeze it in the mold and serve it with fresh breakfast rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served as main courses. How about homemade herb butter with grilled food? With silicone everything is possible!

Baked sweet or savoury

Silicone is also suitable for baking. This way sweet or savoury motifs can be created through baking. Whether chocolate cakes, marble or lemon cake. The silicone mold adapts to your very personal taste. A cake pop batter is also very suitable for the mold. So you can make the cake pop batter classically sweet, with fruit or chocolate pieces, or savoury. For the sweet little cakes you can, for example, coat them with cake icing and then sprinkle sugar sprinkles on top. For the savoury variant, a cheese and ham Bundt cake batter is a good option. Fill this into the cavities and bake at 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes. You can also colour the batter with gel colors to give the motif a great effect. Be creative and try things out.

What to consider when cleaning and caring for silicone molds

Before use, you should place your silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. This is not strictly necessary, but it contributes to the longevity of your silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid closes the pores of the silicone surface better. This keeps the material flexible for a long time and you will enjoy your silicone baking molds for longer. After the silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5-10 minutes, you can now place the mold on a kitchen towel to drain. Try not to rub the baking mold dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is a very good lint catcher. So your silicone mold can end up covered in lint if you dry the baking mold with the kitchen towel. As soon as the mold is dry, you can use it right away. Additional greasing is not necessary.
After you have baked delicious little cakes or frozen ice cream, you can simply put the silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many baking molds usually must not go in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the washing solution. This is not the case with silicone. Depending on how often you use the silicone mold, we recommend that you degas your silicone mold 1-2 times a year. To do this, place the silicone mold in the middle of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat ensures that certain substances in the silicone baking mold evaporate. Now and then a white film or white spots can form on the silicone mold. This happens particularly often when you have not used the silicone mold for a long time. Simply place the mold in the water bath with washing-up liquid for this. Then the grease film detaches from the silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold silicone molds and store them to save space. Don't worry! The silicone mold always returns to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal baking tins!
