Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen

3D silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal baking molds. The best-known baking tins are usually made of aluminum or sheet metal, which are bulky. Metal baking tins take up a lot of space, especially in smaller kitchens. Most metal baking tins must not be put in the dishwasher, as otherwise the non-stick coating can be washed off. With silicone baking tins, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking tins are cold and heat resistant from -40 to 250 degrees. This means that silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked and cleaned in the dishwasher. There are various small silicone molds, but also large silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, donuts, muffins or cake pops, but also ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or ice cream. Caution: even if the silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. Therefore always use oven gloves and allow the silicone mold to cool well. Unlike metal baking tins, silicone tins cool down more quickly. This saves you time and you can process your production more quickly. Compared to rubber, silicone is inexpensive and resistant to chemicals and fungi. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen aid. Thanks to the surface, all masses can be released or toppled by bending and pulling the mold. Although silicone is resistant to splinters and breakage, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore, only use plastic or silicone cutlery for this silicone mold.

Frozen sweet or savory

Cold or frozen masses are particularly suitable for silicone molds. Silicone molds for desserts are the most popular. To ensure that the mixture takes shape, you can simply fill the finished mousse, ice cream or sorbet mixture into the cavities using a piping bag and distribute it in the silicone mold by pulling and pressing. You can then remove the excess mixture with a spatula and pour it into the next mold. Once you have filled each cavity, place the mold in the freezer and leave the treats to freeze for at least 4 hours. Ideally even overnight. Once the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the designs. For frozen delicacies, the Velvet Spray on. This gets its beautiful velvet effect through freezing. Another decoration option for frozen food is working with a mirror glaze. As the name suggests, this gives you a beautiful glaze with an elegant mirror shine. Simply stick a toothpick into the motif, dip your apple pieces into the mirror glaze and leave the whole thing to stand for a while until the glaze has set nicely. With the velvet spray and the mirror finish, it is important that your masses are frozen. Ice cream, gelato and sorbet can be served straight away. A mousse or patisserie can be thawed slowly in the fridge. Creativity is called for with this form: for an appetizer, for example, you can make a savoury eggplant mousse, freeze it in the mould and serve it with fresh breakfast rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served with main courses. How about homemade herb butter to accompany barbecued food? Anything is possible with silicone!

Baked sweet or savory

Silicone is also ideal for baking. Sweet or savory motifs can be created by baking. Whether chocolate cakes, marble or a patisserie piece with the look of half an apple. The silicone mold adapts to your personal taste. Cake pop dough is also ideal for the mold. You can make the cake pop batter classically sweet, with fruit or chocolate pieces, or savory. You can, for example, fill the sweet cakes with Cake icing and then Sugar sprinkles pour over the top. For the savory version, a cheese and ham bundt cake batter is ideal. Pour this into the cavities and bake at 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes. You can also color the dough with the Progel colors to give the motif a great effect. Be creative and try it out.

What I need to consider when cleaning and caring for silicone molds

Before use, you should place your silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. Although this is not necessary, it will contribute to the longevity of your silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid closes the pores of the silicone surface better. This keeps the material flexible for longer and you can enjoy your baking silicone molds for longer. After the silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5-10 minutes, you can now place the mold on a kitchen towel to drain. Try not to rub the baking mold dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is an excellent lint catcher. This means that your silicone mold may become covered in lint if you dry it with the kitchen towel. As soon as the mold is dry, you can use it straight away. Additional greasing is not necessary.

After you have baked delicious cakes or frozen ice cream, you can simply put the silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many baking tins should not be put in the dishwasher as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the detergent solution. This is not the case with silicone. Depending on how often you use the silicone mold, we recommend that you clean your silicone mold 1-2 times a year. To do this, place the silicone mold in the middle of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat ensures that certain substances in the silicone baking mold volatilize. Occasionally, a white layer or white spots may form on the silicone mold. This is particularly common if you have not used the silicone mold for a long time. Simply place the mold in a water bath with washing-up liquid. This will remove the greasy film from the silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold up silicone molds and store them in a space-saving way. Don't worry! The silicone mold will always return to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal baking molds!
