The three-dimensionality of this Sugar decoration is what makes it special and sets it apart – compared to flat sugar decorations, these figures literally stand on top of the baked goods, adding depth and volume and creating a festive decoration that rises above the rest. The figures are made from royal icing – a decorating medium made from sugar and egg powder, piped in multiple layers and fully hardened. The result is shape-stable, lightly crisp figures that reliably hold their three-dimensional form and can be neatly placed on baked goods. Where and how to use the 3D Christmas figures
The figures are ready to use straight away – no modelling, no drying, no preparation needed. Simply take them out of the packaging and place them directly on Buttercream, Ganache, Cake icing or glacé icing – on these surfaces the figures stand firmly and adhere without any additional aids. For an especially secure hold on smooth Fondant, it is recommended to fix the base of the figure with a small dot of melted chocolate – this keeps the figure safely in place even during transport. On cupcakes, the figures work beautifully as individual toppers – one figure per cupcake, placed in the centre of the topping, turns each cupcake into a little Christmas masterpiece. On a cake, all three figures can be arranged together in different positions – on the surface of the cake, at the edge or slightly pressed into the Buttercream for a three-dimensional Christmas effect. Important: royal icing and moisture
Royal icing is sensitive to moisture – this is the most important point to bear in mind when using and storing these figures. If exposed to too much moisture, the royal icing will soften, lose its shape and the three-dimensional structure of the figures can become distorted. Never place the figures on very moist surfaces – on freshly whipped cream or quark-based creams, only place the figures shortly before serving. On Fondant, Cake icing, Buttercream, glacé icing or Ganache, the figures can be placed a little earlier without any problem. Do not store near steam or in damp rooms. If the decorated baked goods are stored in the fridge, keep the time there as short as possible – the moist air inside the fridge can also soften the royal icing over time and affect the three-dimensional shape.
Storage
Store the figures in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture – ideally at 12–20°C. Do not store in the fridge under any circumstances, as the moisture will immediately soften the royal icing and cause the figures to lose their shape. Keep in the original packaging until ready to use.
