Silicone molds are the all-rounders in your kitchen

Silicone baking molds are durable, break-proof and affordable. 3D silicone molds are perfect alternatives to classic metal baking tins. The most well-known baking tins are usually made of aluminium or sheet metal, which are bulky. Especially in smaller kitchens, metal baking tins take up a lot of space. Most metal baking tins are not dishwasher-safe, as the non-stick coating can be washed off. With silicone baking molds, such problems are a thing of the past. Silicone baking molds are cold- and heat-resistant from -40 to 250 degrees. So silicone baking molds can be frozen, baked in and cleaned in the dishwasher. There are all kinds of small silicone molds, as well as large silicone baking molds. You can make cake bases, Donuts, muffins or Cake pops, as well as ice cubes, confectionery, mousse or ice cream. Note: even if the Silicone mold seems perfect, silicone still gets hot in the oven. So always put on oven gloves and let the silicone mold cool down properly. Unlike metal baking tins, silicone molds cool down faster. That saves you time and you can continue working with your creations sooner. Silicone is more affordable than rubber and resistant to chemical substances and fungi. This makes silicone a very hygienic kitchen helper. Thanks to its surface, all mixtures can be released or turned out by bending and pulling the mold. Although silicone is splinter- and break-proof, it is not resistant to knives or other sharp objects. Therefore only use plastic or silicone utensils with this Silicone mold.

Frozen — sweet or savoury

Cold or frozen mixtures are particularly well suited to silicone molds. Silicone molds for desserts are the most popular. To get the mixture to take on the shape, simply fill the finished mousse, ice cream or sorbet mixture into the cavities using a piping bag and distribute it by pulling and pressing in the Silicone mold. You can then scrape off the excess mixture with a Spatula and put it into the next mold. Once you have filled every cavity, place the mold in the freezer and let the treats freeze for at least 4 hours — ideally overnight. Once the desserts are frozen, you can decorate the shapes a little. For frozen treats, Velvet effect spray is a great choice. It gets its beautiful velvet effect through freezing. You can also use Cake glaze. Simply stick a toothpick into the shape, dip your delicious pieces into the Cake glaze and leave them to set for a moment. With both Velvet effect spray and Cake glaze, it is important that your mixtures are frozen. Ice cream and sorbet can be served straight away. A mousse or patisserie can then be left to thaw slowly in the fridge. Creativity is called for with this mold: for a starter, for example, you can make a savoury aubergine mousse, freeze it in the mold and serve it with fresh breakfast rolls. Various creams can also be frozen and served as accompaniments to main courses. How about homemade herb butter for the barbecue? With silicone, anything is possible!

Baked — sweet or savoury

Silicone is also great for baking. Sweet or savoury shapes can be created through baking. Whether chocolate Small cakes, marble or lemon cake — the Silicone mold adapts to your very personal taste. A Cake pop batter also works very well in the mold. You can make the Cake pop batter in the classic sweet style, with fruit or pieces of chocolate, or go savoury. You can coat the sweet Small cakes with Cake icing and then add sugar sprinkles on top. For the savoury version, a cheese and ham Bundt cake batter works perfectly. Fill it into the cavities and bake at 180 degrees for 10–15 minutes. You can also colour the batter with pro Gel colors to give the shapes a great effect. Be creative and experiment.

What do I need to keep in mind when cleaning and caring for silicone molds?

Before use, you should place your Silicone mold in a warm water bath with a little washing-up liquid. This is not strictly necessary, but it does contribute to the longevity of your Silicone mold. The warm water with washing-up liquid helps the pores of the silicone surface to close more effectively. This keeps the material flexible for longer and means you can enjoy your silicone baking molds for longer. After the Silicone mold has been in the water bath for 5–10 minutes, you can place the mold on a kitchen towel to drip dry. Try not to rub the baking tin dry with the kitchen towel. Silicone is a very good lint-catcher. This means that if you dry the baking tin with a kitchen towel, your Silicone mold may end up covered in lint. Once the mold is dry, you can use it straight away. Additional greasing is not necessary.
After you have baked delicious Small cakes or frozen ice cream, you can simply put the Silicone mold in the dishwasher. Many baking tins usually cannot be put in the dishwasher, as the non-stick coating could be washed off by the detergent. That is not the case with silicone. Depending on how often you use the Silicone mold, we recommend that you bake off your Silicone mold 1–2 times a year. To do this, place the Silicone mold in the centre of your oven at 200 degrees top/bottom heat for 4 hours. The heat ensures that certain substances in the silicone baking mold evaporate. Occasionally a white layer or white spots may form on the Silicone mold. This happens particularly often when you have not used the Silicone mold for a long time. Simply place the mold in the water bath with washing-up liquid — this will dissolve the film of grease from the Silicone mold. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, you can fold silicone molds together and store them in a space-saving way. Don't worry! The Silicone mold always returns to its original shape, even after folding or bending. Say goodbye to bulky metal baking tins!
